Battery Pack finished
So, last night Loni and I worked until 11:30 on the battery tray. We got all the measurements and clearances that we wanted, welded it up and put some more bracing in. Its not completely finished, still needs some adjustment (the lower tray is too far forward and hits the fairing). We also had some ideas on supporting the back end of the motor, which we’ll have to implement soon.
While Loni does some of those modifications, I’ll start on making up some cables for the pack. I’ll borrow a 2/4 Gauge cable crimper from work Tues. I’m using 4 Gauge for the batteries, and putting 6 in series and bringing that to the contactor, then putting another 6 in series and bringing that to the contactor. The contactor is DPST, so with a quick adjustment, I can go from 144 to 72V and gain current/torque, but lower my top speed.
I stayed a little later than Loni and put the upper and lower front fairings on it, set the gas tank on top and put the seat on for some quick photos. Click on the photo below for more pictures.

Wow, what a sweet project! One thing is for sure: this Loni guy is a wrench-turning, grease-bathed, torch-wielding sex god…

Hey Travis, glad to see all is going well. I really like the brace you went with on the motor mount.
Just had another thought about the bike… Are you going to use the gas tank for anything other then looks? With a little cutting, might make for some good storage space. Kinda like a center console, on a bike – LOL
Hit me up on aim sometime – I am considering a project kinda like this for myself. Reading up now on converting a prius to pluggable…
